LOST in Weirdly Scientific Doppelgängers
Weird Science doesn't top anyone's movie list, but it warrants a spot on any reputable list of good 80s movies. I remember the first time I watched Gary and Wyatt's scientifically stunning creation, Lisa, appear on screen.
Even as a child, Lisa's appearance made me keenly aware that women are supposed to be ideal, in both face and body.
Of course, I am required to mention that an ideal (even a false ideal) can be hazardous to one's self-esteem. However, I don't want to get into the depravity of comparison right now.
Instead, I'd like to address a recent Facebook trend. You know where I'm going with this... the doppelgänger (a German word for look-alike). Out of my steadfast determination to refute all things truly mainstream, I have refrained from posting a celebrity as my Facebook profile picture. And yet, at a moment's notice I am able to confirm what famous person bears resemblance to "little ole me."
Why are celebrity look-alikes so entertaining?
For years and years, I've heard that I look like Hilary Swank. More recently, I've had friends liken me to Anna Torv (from the show Fringe). For your evaluation, I present...
Who is your doppelgänger?
In college, my friends and I came across a site that would configure a person's facial features and find a doppelgänger match (that's when I was first likened to Million-Dollar-Baby Swank). I pulled up that website today and found a new look-alike match. One more exciting than all the others, for this actress is... A CHARACTER FROM LOST. And I really love LOST!
Suddenly, my life is complete.
